Buses from the City of Key West were called into service Thursday to help ferry sailors to the Outer Mole where Navy helicopters flew them to the aircraft carrier USS George Washington. Commander Pete Fyles, left, executive officer at Naval Air Station Key West, spent the damp afternoon overseeing the two-day operation. Fyles said about 1,800 sailors were on the island. The operation took place while a cruise ship was docked at the Outer Mole and passengers were traveling back and forth on Historic Tours of America trolleys. Port Director Raymond Archer said the operation was a good example of cooperation been the city and Navy.
