Students takeover city

Thursday morning begins Key West Government Day and high school students will be paired with elected officials and city associates from Key West City Manager to the city’s Public Information Officer and most all department heads in-between.

After learning the job responsibilities of their city associate partner and other city departments in the morning, at 1 p.m. students will conduct their own Key West City Commission meeting at Old City Hall to discuss community issues. Students will run the entire meeting serving as elected officials, city manager, city attorney, city clerk, and department directors.

The city established this program so high school students can learn how the city and its various departments run.
