Key West to enforce bike laws

Key West City Code Enforcement will soon begin to enforce ordinances that allow the removal of bicycles chained to trees, light posts, trash cans or other items on city property not designated as bike racks and derelict bikes that are damaged or stripped of parts in bike racks. Gilbert Suarez, superintendent of Public Works, is seen in this photo removing a derelict bike from a rack on Southard Street. Public Works employees will soon drive Simonton, Duval and White streets, as well as side streets, looking for violations. Removed bicycles will be in the police bicycle impound facility on Simonton and Angela streets.
