The Key West Fire Department recently pressure tested all its fire hoses. Chief BillyWardlow, left, and firefighters AlanAverette and ChrisSaunders, listen as Capt. PatPelletier explains how the new pressure pump works. The pump costs about $2,000. It allows the fire department to test its fire hoses with 250 pounds-per-squire-inch of pressure for five minutes. The new pump also keeps the fire department from using a fire truck pump for the test and that cuts down on the ware-and-tear on the $10,000 truck pump. The yearly test is required to keep the Insurance Service Office’s rating for insurance costs low for Key West residents.
