4/9/03 - The Key West Police
Department has achieved state law enforcement accreditation after an
exhaustive inspection April 2, 3, and 4.
Every aspect of the department's policies and procedures, management,
operations and support services were held to 276 statewide standards by
inspectors from the Commission on Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation
(CFA). For nearly three days they interviewed officers and employees at
all levels, checked out their equipment and pored through their records.
Under the guidance of Lt. Alan Newby, employees spent over two years
preparing for the comprehensive inspections. The inspectors found the
department complied with those objective standards, awarding them full
Florida law enforcement accreditation, a highly prized recognition of
The department will be formally accredited at the June CFA accreditation
meeting in Daytona Beach.
