Police Department Achieves State Accreditation

4/9/03 - The Key West Police Department has achieved state law enforcement accreditation after an exhaustive inspection April 2, 3, and 4.

Every aspect of the department's policies and procedures, management, operations and support services were held to 276 statewide standards by inspectors from the Commission on Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation (CFA). For nearly three days they interviewed officers and employees at all levels, checked out their equipment and pored through their records.

Under the guidance of Lt. Alan Newby, employees spent over two years preparing for the comprehensive inspections. The inspectors found the department complied with those objective standards, awarding them full Florida law enforcement accreditation, a highly prized recognition of professional excellence.

The department will be formally accredited at the June CFA accreditation meeting in Daytona Beach.
