Navy Will NOT be Establishing New Bombing Ranges in Key West

1/13/03 - The Navy will not be using Key West for a bombing range, Public Affairs Officer for the Atlantic Fleet, Mike Brady, said Monday. The Navy's announcement Friday prompted speculation regarding new target ranges in and around Florida. "Key West will be used as a central command control hub but the Navy will be using already established ranges, the closest being over 100 miles Northwest of Key West."

The Navy announced Friday that it would not longer use Vieques, Puerto Rico for Navy training activities. The Navy's statement should alleviate any fears citizens may have regarding any expanded training in the Keys.
