2/6/03 Key West At the
City Commission meeting February 4, Junior Alexandra Almeda was appointed
to fill a vacancy on the Youth Advisory Board.
A National Honor Society
member, Beta Club member and Cheerleader, Almeda sees the opportunity to
serve on the board as, an honor . . .to be part of such an important
group. It is important to me
to make my high school years as productive as possible.
Almeda continued, I enjoy being active in numerous organizations
and helping out in the community.
Board consists of seven Key West High School students appointed by the
City Commission. Each Commissioner is allowed to nominate one
representative from their district, with a member-at-large appointed by
the Mayor. Students are of different grade levels to ensure some
continuity from one year to the next.
The goal of the Youth Advisory Board is to provide recommendations
to the Commission that will positively impact the life of local youth.
Board formed their mission statement to frame their objectives:
are a board of young students who were formed to create a stronger voice
for the youth of the Florida Keys. We will strive to work with the
Commissioners to create a better community for current residents and those
Youth Advisory Board meets each Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Old City Hall.
