CERTIFIED POLICE OFFICER I

Perform police duties in the protection of life and property, the enforcement of laws and ordinances, the apprehension of violators, the investigation of crimes, traffic enforcement and investigation, crime prevention, and the preservation of order.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

  • U.S. Citizen by birth or naturalized.
  • At least 19 years of age.
  • Must possess, at a minimum, a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Read, speak and write English clearly.   (Spanish as a second language is desirable.)
  • Be in good physical condition by passing a physical agility test.
  • Pass a medical examination.
  • No illegal drug usage in recent years verified by drug screening.
  • Pass a psychological assessment.
  • Pass a polygraph examination.
  • Complete an oral interview
  • Possess Florida law enforcement officer certification, (or be immediately certifiable).
  • Possess a valid driver's license.
  • Good moral character as defined by F.S. 943.13 and confirmed by a thorough background investigation.
  • No felony convictions, or misdemeanor convictions involving perjury, false statements or domestic battery.
  • Stable school and work history.
  • Able to work a 40 hour work week, rotating shifts, and overtime when necessary.
  • Able to cope with stressful situations firmly, courteously, tactfully, and professionally.
