TELECOMMUNICATOR I

Telecommunicators are the vital link between the citizen and Police, Fire, and EMS assistance.  They receive calls for assistance and dispatch the appropriate response. Telecommunicators operate a variety of communications equipment including multi-line telephones, multi-channel two radio consoles, and computer terminals.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

  • U.S. Citizen by birth or naturalized.
  • At least 19 years of age.
  • Must possess, at a minimum, a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Read, speak and write English clearly.   (Spanish as a second language is desirable.)
  • Able to pass a typing test, (30 wpm).
  • Pass a medical examination.
  • No illegal drug usage in recent years verified by drug screening.
  • Pass a psychological assessment.
  • Pass a polygraph examination.
  • Complete an oral interview
  • Able to sit at a console for extended periods of time.
  • Able to wear a headset for extended periods of time.
  • Able to look at a computer monitor for extended periods of time.
  • Free of hearing impairments which would interfere with the essential job functions.
  • Stable school and work history confirmed by a thorough background investigation.
  • No felony convictions.
  • Able to work a 40 hour work week, rotating shifts, and overtime when necessary.
  • Able to cope with stressful situations firmly, courteously, tactfully, and professionally.
