||City Commissioner Ed
Scales was elected to represent District III in October 2001. He is
President of his own Key West law firm. Ed primarily practices in
the areas of commercial litigation, real estate, and mediation. Ed’s
firm also serves as General Counsel to Historic Tours of America,
Inc., the largest privately held tour company in the world,
operating trains, trolleys, themed retail stores and attractions in
San Diego, Boston, Washington, D.C. Savannah, St. Augustine, and, of
course, Key West.
Ed also founded Atlantic Title &
Abstract Company and serves as the President of this Key West company
which writes title insurance, closes land transactions and prepares real
estate abstracts for clients.
On Sunday afternoons, Ed hosts the popular
“Ed Scales Show” on local radio station US-1 (104.1-FM), where Ed
plays hits from the 60s, 70s and 80s and (sometimes to the chagrin of
station management) provides light comment on issues.
Ed has lived in Key West since 1998 having
moved here from his hometown of Lakeland, Florida. Ed graduated, with
honors, from the University of Florida with a broadcasting degree in 1988,
and from UF’s College of Law in 1991. Ed served as UF’s Student Body
President in 1989-90, is a member of Florida Blue Key, and continues to
serve on the Alumni Counsel for UF’s Law School and as part of the
University’s Student Affairs Advisory Committee. He’s also a huge
Ed is a member of the Key West Chamber of
Commerce and serves on the Chamber’s Governmental Affairs Committee. Ed
is also a member of the Key West Rotary Club.
