Presidential advisor in Key West  

PRESIDENT’S LEADING ADVISOR ON HOMELESSNESS TO MEET WITH LOCAL AND BUSINESS OFFICIALS Thursday morning, Philip Mangano, President Bush’s leading advisor on homeless issues and the Executive Director of the US Interagency Council on Homelessness will be meeting with Key West government officials, leaders from local social service agencies, and representatives from the business community. He will discuss the Interagency Council’s programs to help local entities develop a local 10-year plan to eliminate chronic homelessness. Similar plans have been successfully created in numerous cities across theUnited States. Phil Mangano was appointed by President Bush to lead the Council in March 2002. The Interagency Council is a part of the Domestic Policy Council within the Executive Office of the President and is responsible for the coordination of 20 federal agencies in their response to reduce and end homelessness. Prior to the meeting, Mangano will receive a tour of current sites that assist our Key West homeless community. He will then meet with Mayor Weekley and City Manager Julio Avael, the Executive Board of the Southernmost Homeless Assistance League, and leaders from the Chamber of Commerce, Lodging Association, and Restaurant and Bar Association.
