Bahama Village drug sting nets nine

Nine suspected street-level drug dealers were taken off the streets of Key West late Thursday night and early Friday morning in a sting operation conducted by detectives from the Key West Police Department’s Street Crimes Unit. Within four hours, all but one were arrested at the corner of Baptist Lane and Petronia Street in Bahama Village, an area reportedly fraught with drug activity.

“We’re going to continue to hit this area hard until the drug activity is under control,” said Detective Sgt. Bernardo Barrios, head of the Street Crimes Unit. “Between my detectives and the road patrol officers assigned to the drug task force, people like the ones we just arrested will have a hard time keeping the drug trade alive in Bahama Village.”

Arrested for soliciting to sell cocaine, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute and tampering with evidence were: William Albert Bois, 54, James Clinton Powell, 36, Brian Fecik, 28, Jan-Martin Blinckmann, 37, and James M. Larrabee, 53, all of Key West, and Miguel Angel Canizares, 38, and Leonardo Hernandez, 37, both of Stock Island. Also arrested on those same charges was Daniel T. Dempsey, 33, of Frankfort, Ky. Jonathan Logalbo was arrested for being a principle to soliciting to sell cocaine and to possession of cocaine with intent to distribute.
