A couple Key West police picked up Tuesday at Simonton Beach for having drug paraphernalia turned out allegedly to be involved in at least two recent burglaries on the island.
The police bicycle team of Bradley Lariz and E. J. Cuneo were doing a routine check of the area when Cuneo recognized the two from photos at the police station identifying them as burglary suspects, Detective Hollis Wood said. They arrested Elizabeth Daly Richter, 34, for allegedly having a marijuana pipe with residue on it, and Christopher Alan Glover, 25, for allegedly also having a pipe and a small box of marijuana.
The officers held them until Wood and other detectives, who had been investigating the burglaries, met them at the beach. Glover and Richter agreed to go to the police station.
Wood told them about a burglary from July 13 in which keys from a beach bag stolen from Smathers Beach were used to steal the owners’ car and then to enter their condominium from which about $300 in cash was taken while the owners’ son was in the bathroom. Photos from several security cameras at the condominium complex reportedly showed the couple leaving the area, he said. Wood said Glover had a conspicuous tattoo on his arm that Cuneo recognized from the photos.
Wood arrested them, charging Glover and Richter each with burglary of an occupied structure and grand theft auto and additionally charging Richter with petit theft for reportedly taking the beach bag.
During the interview Wood was able also to tie the couple to two other car burglaries, only one of which may have been reported, he said. He added charges of burglary of a conveyance and grand theft to each suspect for a July 6th car burglary in which $600 cash and about $2,100 in jewelry were taken.
